Taxpert

Taxpert is Expert Arm’s upcoming interactive payroll tax platform, built to help people understand not only what they owe, but how each calculation works, what they may be able to claim, and the law behind every result.

What is Taxpert?

Tax is often reduced to one final number.

An amount is entered, a result appears and the calculation ends there. The person using the calculator may know what they are expected to pay, but they may still have no idea how the figure was reached, which deductions were considered or which rule supports the result.

That lack of clarity creates uncertainty.

Taxpert is being developed by Expert Arm to provide a deeper view. It will calculate tax, but the calculation will only be the beginning. The wider purpose is to help people and businesses understand the result, see what may affect it and trace every important part of the calculation back to the relevant tax law.

The first phase of Taxpert will focus on payroll calculations.

The first release is planned for the first quarter of 2027, beginning with payroll calculations for Pakistan, Australia and New Zealand.

Further payroll country releases will follow throughout 2027. Other Taxpert calculation variations are planned for 2028.

Deeper Answers

Most payroll calculation tools are designed to provide a quick estimate. They ask for a small amount of information, apply a basic rate and return a number.

That can be useful, but tax is rarely that simple.

The final tax position within payroll may depend on the type of income received, the person involved, the applicable deductions, the supporting evidence and the rules in force for the relevant period. Two users with similar earnings may have very different outcomes.

Taxpert is being designed to go further into the calculation.

It will guide the user through relevant questions and show how the answers affect the result. The user will be able to interact with every component of the calculation, open an explanation and see how that component changes the final figure. Taxpert will also explain which items may be claimable, which items may not be claimable and why that treatment has been applied. Each important component will lead back to the rule used in reaching the result.

The aim is to move away from a calculation that must simply be accepted.

A tax figure should not be a mystery.

The result should have a clear path behind it. A user should be able to move through the calculation one component at a time, understand how the parts connect and identify any area that may need closer review.

Built on Law

Taxpert will be built around the rules that create the tax outcome. Important calculations, deductions and treatments will be connected to the relevant legislation or official authority material. Where a rule affects the result, the platform is intended to show the source behind that rule.

The legal reference will not sit separately from the calculation. It will be connected to the component it supports. This will allow a user to move from the result, to the explanation, and then to the relevant law.

This matters because confidence should come from evidence, not from the appearance of certainty.

Tax law changes. Rates change. Thresholds move. New rules are introduced and older rules may stop applying. A tax tool must therefore do more than hold a formula. It must recognise the country, the relevant period and the legal basis being used.

Taxpert is being designed with accuracy as a core requirement. The goal is to make calculations transparent, traceable and open to review.

No responsible tax platform can guarantee every outcome when the information entered may be incomplete, incorrect or affected by circumstances that software cannot fully assess. Taxpert will address this honestly. It will show the assumptions used, identify where more information may be needed and provide the supporting basis for material parts of the calculation. The standard is not confidence without proof.

The standard is a result that can be understood and checked.

Clear Deductions

Deductions are often the most confusing part of a tax calculation. People may know that an expense was incurred, but not whether the law allows it to be claimed. Others may fail to claim a valid deduction because they do not know it exists or what evidence is required. In some cases, an item may be partly claimable rather than fully accepted or rejected.

Taxpert will provide a comprehensive payroll deductions sheet as part of the result. The sheet is intended to show the deductions considered, the treatment applied and the effect on the calculation. It will separate items that appear claimable from those that do not meet the relevant conditions. Where an item requires further evidence or professional review, that position will be made clear.

Each important treatment will be supported by a reference to the relevant law or official guidance.

The deductions sheet will be available to download as a PDF. This will give the user a structured record that can be saved, reviewed and used as a starting point for a more detailed tax discussion where required.

The PDF is not intended to be a decorative summary. It is intended to explain the calculation in a useful form.

Learn the Law

Finding the law is only one part of understanding it. Tax legislation can be difficult to read. A section may rely on definitions found elsewhere, and the wording may not immediately explain how the rule affects a real calculation. Taxpert will therefore connect with Latest Insights.

When a law or rule appears within a Taxpert calculation, the user will be able to follow it to a related Latest Insights article. The article will break the rule into smaller and more digestible parts. Examples will show how the law works in practice and how it has been used in reaching the calculation or deduction result. This will help the user understand both the legal source and its practical effect.

The aim is not only to show a reference. It is to educate the user on what the reference means. Taxpert will provide the calculation. Latest Insights will provide the learning behind it.

Launch Roadmap

The payroll calculation phase of Taxpert will be introduced in stages during 2027.

Built in Phases

The phased rollout is deliberate. Payroll calculation rules cannot be copied from one country to another. Each jurisdiction has its own legislation, definitions, thresholds, deductions and official sources. Building too many countries at once would create breadth without the depth that Taxpert is meant to provide.

Each phase will allow the country logic, questions, explanations, references and downloadable outputs to be reviewed before the next stage begins.

The product will also continue to evolve after launch.

Real use will reveal which questions need to be clearer, which deductions need more explanation and where users require more detail. Those lessons will be used to improve the existing countries while new jurisdictions are being developed.

This reflects the wider Expert Arm philosophy that a useful product is never frozen in time. Rules change and expectations change. Taxpert must continue learning, updating and improving if it is to remain relevant.

Beyond Payroll

The 2027 roadmap is the first phase of Taxpert, and that phase is focused on payroll calculations.

This focus gives the platform time to build depth, test the way users interact with each calculation and strengthen the links between results, deductions, legal references and Latest Insights.

The next phase will begin in 2028. From that point, other Taxpert calculation variations will be introduced using the same approach. Each variation will aim to combine a detailed calculation with clear explanations, legal traceability, downloadable information and practical education.

Payroll is the starting point for Taxpert. It is not the final destination.

The Goal

Taxpert is not being created simply to place another payroll calculation tool online. The goal is to build a clearer connection between a tax result and the rules that produced it. Users should be able to see what was calculated, what was considered, what may be claimed, what may not be claimed and where the relevant rule can be found. They should be able to interact with every component and move from the result to the law and from the law to a practical explanation. They should also be able to retain a detailed PDF record of the deductions and treatments included in the result.

This will not replace the role of a qualified tax professional, particularly where the facts are complex or require legal interpretation. Taxpert will provide indicative calculations and general information based on the details entered and the rules available for the relevant country and period.

Its role is to create a stronger starting point.

A starting point built on clearer questions, deeper calculations, visible sources and useful education.

Taxpert is planned to begin that journey in the first quarter of 2027.

Pakistan, Australia and New Zealand will be first.

The remaining payroll markets will follow throughout the year. Other Taxpert variations will begin arriving in 2028.
